Teeth Whitening
A whiter smile can make you look younger. Teeth whitening is a simple solution to yellow teeth, and multiple modalities exist to achieve whiter teeth. At the most basic, over-the-counter treatments such as Crest White Strips offer an inexpensive way to achieve minor teeth whitening. Dr. Brazeal also provides at-home whitening trays and in-office ZOOM! bleaching that use stronger and more potent whitening agents to achieve more profound and long lasting effects.
The at-home whitening trays are custom-made from impressions taken of each patients mouth. The soft rubbery trays are designed to hold the bleaching gel directly against the tooth to achieve whiter teeth. These are often worn for a couple of hours at a time, for around one week. Dramatic whitening of the teeth are generally noted after a full course of treatment. Also, the trays can be reused in the future to whiten again. Refills of the whitening gel are available from Dr. Brazeal.
The most common side effect of tooth whitening is transient tooth sensitivity. This will usually dissipate on its own once whitening is ceased, and using an anti-sensitivity toothpaste, such as Sensodyne, can often help limit the sensitivity.
